This book WON the 2010 Children’s Book Council of Australia Book of the Year award for the Early Childhood sector.

Reasons we love this book:

1/ It shows how the most unlikely of friends can have the best of friendships!

Bear is adventurous, chook is cautious. Together they have a spontaneous trip to the sea and have a lot of fun together. Their two different personalities create a harmonious relationship.

2/ It teaches children that it’s ok to try things and not be great at them.

It’s about trying and giving things a go!

Bear goes for a spontaneous dip in the ocean… Bear ends up getting dunked in the waves and it scares him. Chook comforts bear, and in a round about way, teaches him that he’ll be better at it next time (the old saying if you fall off the horse, you’ve got to get back on again).

3/ There’s no place like home!

As fun as their adventure to the sea was, Bear and Chook are very grateful to get back to the safety and comfort of their homes. A nice ‘after holiday’ book to read with your little one to show them that creature comforts and having to go home is a good ending to a lovely holiday.

Lovely book. Simple, uncomplicated and as stated, a lovely after holidays read for all the littlies out there.

For 2.5-3yo and up!
