This is the story of a picture book doomed from the very start.

My Worst Book Ever is a clever and amusing introduction to the process of writing books for children, and they, along with their parents, will be delighted to see how hilariously wrong Allan and Bruce's book turns out.

Reasons we ❤️ this book:

1/ It’s a book about a book!
Yup. What more can a book lover need? I like that it shows kids how their favourite books are created - from start to finish. Obviously in this situation, things do not go according to plan, but the actual book they are writing ‘Crocodile Snap’ is really a stand out read and a kids book I’d love to own.

2/ It’s for grown ups too!
This is a really clever and very different style of children’s book.
I loved that this wasn’t a typical kids story. This book within a book opened up different conversations with my child and it was just as fun for the adults as well as the child. Sometimes a rare thing! It was a bit of a longer read than we are used to, but this wasn’t a problem. Mr 5 is already requesting to take this one to school to share, so it must be a hit!

3/ It puts a focus on real life and how things can and DO go wrong at times!
I think it’s important to teach children that sometimes things do go wrong! It’s not ideal… and it is pretty darn awful (especially when work related)! However, it also taught my child that things do go wrong, but you must persevere and ‘get back on the horse’ - so to speak. I like that in the story he gets on with life and has another great idea to work on and focus his creative energy back into.

Such a fun little book! Great gift for that new school starter you may have in your home… or any 5+ year olds having a birthday soon - this might be for them!

Or, know of a children’s book writer, illustrator or publisher - DEFINITELY one for them!! Ha!

Enjoy - let me know your thoughts.
